BMW MCC Recce Ride, off road – Sunday 3 June .
One area I haven’t explored that much is the area between say Hopefield and Piketberg but out more in the direction of Aurora and Redelingshys. I also saw some nice looking roads off the N7 whilst on my way back from Boegoeberg this past weekend which also look like they need exploring and are in the same area. Some place called Rust sounds interesting.
We are riding a fun enduro on Saturday in the Hopefield area so I am planning to go on Sunday and have a look around on the BMW. If you want to join me, we will meet at the usual meeting spot in Plattekloof, ready for a 08H30 departure.
We will make it up as we go along, perhaps find a place to eat, perhaps eat next to the road, be prepared for both and please make sure you carry a camel back for water as well.
Whilst anyone is welcome, I am not sure it will suit beginners. It is a recce and the area is called the “Sandveld” after all, so who knows.
There will not be a back up but I will carry a SAT phone for in case and I am aiming to be home by mid afternoon.
If you are interested, please drop your name in this thread.
If you have any questions, you can contact me via the contact page where all my details are.
The weather is currently looking very good for the weekend.
Cheers

Sounds good. If there's too many gladiators I might give it a miss but will keep an eye on the list as it grows.
Please count me in
Sounds good!
Go into Aurora, turn West at the 4-way stop, at the pastorie T-junction, turn left onto dirt to Redelinghuys. 3km out on the right is a gate to Sun Mountain, Mountain Mist. This road is a lovely climb up the mountain, 15km long, and ends at the Radar Station on top. Our farm is on the right just before the final climb to the station.
Will see you there FRANCOIS
So if you have ridden any little roads in this area before, bring your memory.
If you have any good maps, bring them along.
If you have the latest TOPO maps on your GPS, don't forget it.
I am going to try my new little program today which allows me to make Paths on Google Earth and transform them into routes for my GPS. I also remember some nice roads we took to get to one of the QBE Enduro's outside of Moorreesburg last year, heading in the general direction we want to go.
Hi Warren you can put our names down
Mike and Adie Adendorff
Thanks.
Hi Warren ,remember me,Ha Ha.
Please ad Tony Penver to the ride.
Cheers buddy.
Warren, I'll meet up with you guys at the Melkbos turnoff (where the M19 joins the N7). Please add Abie Fourie to the list. He will be on his new Dakar and is itching to take it for a ride.
Thanks, E
LOOKS LIKE A FINE DAY SO COUNT ME IN UNLESS YOU REACHED MAX NUMBERS
If you split the group 50:50 at every intersection you should have all the roads covered in no time.
PS remember to submit all tracks to T4A on Monday
Enjoy the recce guys.
I am off to the Buffelspoort!!!!!
I'm there - Thanks Warren!
Thanks to everyone the came along, 16 bikes it turned out to be and really awesome weather. If you weren't riding your bike yesterday, what were you doing?
Some new (for me) lekker little roads uncovered, one U turn, an old favorite in the pass above Goedverwaght, a good burger at the Spur in Piketburg and home in time to watch the recorded GP before the wife gets her night with the remote. There remains alot more "splorin to do" out there though.
Hope you all enjoyed it, and Craig, you're a braver man than me, hope you at least learned something yesterday.
It was a good day!
There was also an element of revenge against the English! No injuries ... only fear ... just what's needed before the Test!
Thanks Warren. That mountain pass (Klok se poort - I believe?) had a bit of everything... steep slopes, loose rocks, some mud and a dash of sand. I feel as if i've graduated from from a 'one-liner' to a full Korporaal after yesterday's outing.
HaHa nice one PeterO - SA 1 - Engelsman 0
